Armed Man Arrested At Slain Teen's Funeral: Mount Vernon Police
Detectives were on hand at the service hoping to identify witnesses to a shooting death, but made two arrests, according to officials.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Detectives arrested a man with a loaded handgun who fled the funeral of a slain teen.
A second man was also arrested for interfering in the arrest of the initial suspect.
On Tuesday, Mount Vernon detectives were present at the funeral of Tamani Turner, the 18-year-old who was shot to death on April 6. Cops were attempting to locate a witness to that murder at the service. While watching the procession following the funeral service, detectives saw someone that they believed was the witness they were looking for.

This potential witness fled on foot after spotting the detectives.
After a brief foot chase, the man was apprehended near Garden Avenue and East 4th Street, and a loaded firearm was recovered. As detectives were attempting to place the initial suspect in handcuffs, another Mount Vernon man jumped on the backs of the detectives, attempting to prevent them from making the arrest.

Both men were arrested and removed from the area of the funeral procession.

They were lodged at the Mount Vernon Police Jail and will be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on Wednesday.
The Mount Vernon teenager who was being laid to rest today was initially expected to survive his wounds, but died in the hospital after being shot twice in the torso.
Mount Vernon police and their law enforcement partners, including the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, arrested 33-year-old Akeem Grant of Mount Vernon for the killing.
