Over the next five months, working with prosecutors from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, detectives built a case and brought charges against the suspect. On December 19, Yonkers Police detectives and members of the FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force canvassed a residence in Staten Island and located the suspect. He was found in possession of a loaded, illegal Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Investigators believe that the victim and Williams were acquainted, with a history that included shared ties to Delaware. The men traveled together to Mount Vernon and crossed into Yonkers — possibly searching for a car service, investigators said. Detectives believe that while in Yonkers, the suspect displayed a handgun and shot the victim in the head. The incident was the violent culmination of several disputes between them over personal matters, police officials said.
Williams then fled the area, later traveling to Delaware.
Williams was charged in Richmond County with felony criminal possession of a weapon. It was not until he was remanded and transferred to Yonkers Criminal Court on January 3, that he was charged and arraigned on one count of murder two.
The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
The victim is identified as Jabree West. The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department offer their sincere condolences to his family and friends.
The Yonkers Police Department would like to thank the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force, the NYPD 120th Precinct Detective Squad, and the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit for their invaluable assistance in this investigation and commitment to public safety.
