Bronx Man Arrested With Loaded Gun After Hit-And-Run, Chase: MVPD

Mount Vernon police said he hit yet another car during a police chase, ending his attempt to elude capture.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Police said a driver already wanted in connection with a hit-and-run, managed to crash into another vehicle before cops could take him into custody.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mount Vernon Police Department detectives attempted to stop a vehicle wanted in connection with a hit-and-run. When the detectives tried to pull the car over, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 26-year-old Demarco Royal-King, of the Bronx, fled in the vehicle.

Detectives pursued the car, and just a couple of blocks away, Royal-King crashed his vehicle into another driver.

He was taken into custody by the detectives, and a loaded handgun was found in his car.

Royal-King was taken to the Mount Vernon City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in Mount Vernon City Court.

He is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and several other vehicle and traffic law infractions.

The driver of the vehicle hit by Royal-King was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and refused medical attention.

Mount Vernon police are asking anyone with information about this stabbing to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the MVPD "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and your tip to 847411. Information can also be sent anonymously using the "Mount Vernon PD" app in the Google Play and Apple Store.
