Groundbreaking for Pennington School Addition is Monday

The middle school addition is part of the $108 million bond 20/20 Vision project.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Another part of the Mount Vernon school district's 20/20 Vision plan gets underway Monday. The plan is supported by a $108 million bond approved by residents in 2016 and modified in early 2017.

It adds extra classrooms and reconfigures the district into elementary and high schools. Research shows that the middle school model doesn't work well for students.

WHAT: A ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of the new addition at Pennington School.

WHO: Mount Vernon Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton and the Board of Education.

WHEN: Monday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m.

WHERE: Pennington School, 20 Fairway Ave., Mount Vernon.

WHY: The ground-breaking will mark the beginning of another key project that is part of the Mount Vernon City School District’s $108 million bond, which was passed in March 2016 and is powering the school district’s 20/20 Vision. The school will feature a new middle school addition with science labs, and a library/media center. Other Pennington School bond project work includes restoration of the basketball courts, baseball fields and soccer field.
