Homeland Security Agent Involved In Apparent Road Rage Shooting

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Homeland Security agent was involved in an apparent road rage incident, according to a report.

Citing a law enforcement source, NBC News New York is reporting that a special agent with Homeland Security shot another driver who approached his car.

The on-duty Homeland Security agent and another driver got into a disagreement while on the highway, according to the television station. Both pulled over, according to the law enforcement source. The other driver reportedly approached the HSI agent's car with a knife in his hand before the agent shot and wounded him.

The FBI, HSI and Mount Vernon PD are involved in the investigation.

Ricky Patel, the Acting Special Agent in Charge for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), told NBC News that the shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The wounded driver was treated at the hospital and is listed in stable condition, according to a report from NBC New York's Jonathan Dienst. The HSI agent is said to have been uninjured in the incident, but was taken for a medical evaluation.
