Inauguration Ceremony Is Saturday For Shawyn Patterson-Howard
It will be at a school named for the mayor-elect's godmother.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon's first female mayor will be sworn in Saturday at Nellie A. Thornton High School. The school holds special significance for Mayor-Elect Shawyn Patterson-Howard, because it is named after her godmother and mentor, a revered Mount Vernon educator.
Patterson-Howard will be joined by a host of local, state and federal elected officials including Congressman Eliot Engel, County Executive George Latimer, NYS Senator Jamal Bailey, NYS Assemblymember J. Gary Pretlow and Speaker of the NYS Assembly Carl E. Heastie to commemorate her installation.
About 1,500 friends, family, colleagues and constituents are expected to attend.

The first woman and person of color appointed President and CEO of the YMCA of Yonkers,
Patterson-Howard is the first woman elected in Mount Vernon’s history, and the first woman of color elected mayor in Westchester County.
She lists as her priorities strengthening the local community and using her relationships on the city, county, state and federal levels to bolster Mount Vernon and restore trust in the city’s leadership.
