YONKERS, NY — The Empire City Casino is wearing its pride on its sleeve, or more accurately on its iconic lighted porte cochere.

Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts announced that they have put their pride on full display by lighting their signature porte cochere in rainbow colors each night during the month of June for Pride Month. The company says that this initiative celebrates acceptance and love, in recognizing the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and shining a spotlight on the work that still needs to be done.

MGM Resorts, which acquired Empire City Casino in 2019, was the first company in the gaming and hospitality industry to offer their employees same-sex health benefits back in 2004. MGM Resorts has also been named one of the nation’s "Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality" by the Human Rights Campaign, with a perfect score of 100 for the 11th consecutive year.

Empire City employee Joe Frasure, who started working at Empire City in January 2020 and was recently promoted to Racing Secretary late last year at the Yonkers Raceway, said that one of the reasons he chose to relocate to New York for the job was because of the company’s welcoming and inclusive environment.

"I am so happy to be part of an organization that celebrates the diversity of all cultures. The recognition of Pride month by our organization each year makes me so proud to be employed by MGM Resorts," Frasure said.

The company says that celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month is one way it shows its commitment to taking strong and principled stands on issues of equality, while recognizing its LGBTQ+ employees and the many allies who champion a more inclusive global community. The company noted that additional initiatives will take place internally for employees, including Pride-themed gifts and an information campaign highlighting the contributions of notable LGBTQ+ community members.
