Mount Vernon Man Charged With Manslaughter Over Saturday Stabbing

The 25-year-old is accused of stabbing a 38-year-old outside a corner store.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Mount Vernon 25-year-old has been accused of the fatal stabbing of Jermial Rose on Saturday. Savion Kirton was arraigned Monday in Mount Vernon City Court, charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class B felony, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced.

Kirton was being held in Westchester County Jail on $200,000 bond/$100,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for his next court appearance June 11, 2019, in Mount Vernon City Court.

On Saturday, prosecutors allege that Savion Kirton stabbed another man while outside a corner store on South Eighth Avenue at West Fifth Street. The victim, 38-year-old Jermial Rose, was pronounced dead later at Montefiore-Mount Vernon Hospital.

The DA's office gave no other details about the incident.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Strongin, Deputy Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau.
