Mount Vernon Names New Commissioner of Management Services

On Monday September 14th, 2020, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard swore in a new Commissioner of Management Services Dr. Helen Adesuwa Uzamere, DPS, PMP, PMI-ACP, MSCE, ITIL. Dr. Uzamere is a technology leader, certified project manager, author, and educator with over 25 years of experience on three continents (Africa, Europe, and North America).

Born in London, England, and raised in Nigeria, her work spans government, non-profit, academia, and corporate sectors where she worked for companies such as Hewlett Packard and IBM. She obtained her Doctorate in Computing and Masters in Information Systems from Pace University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Computing and Artificial Intelligence from London South Bank University, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, Nigeria.

Dr. Uzamere holds numerous industry certifications from Microsoft, CompTIA, IBM, and PMI. She has led various technology departments, and her previous roles include Director of Information Technology at New York City Criminal Justice Agency, New York and Head of Information and Communications Technology at London East Connexions Partnership in London.

Her career in technology began in the early ’90s as a technical instructor with IBM helping network engineers attain technical certifications in server and network operating systems.

Dr. Uzamere is also a professor at Pace University and Westchester Community College, where she teaches a variety of technical and Project Management courses. Dr. Uzamere is a sought-after speaker and has delivered numerous talks and training to international organizations, including fortune 100 companies. She is an Agilist with expertise in using agile techniques to solve problems and increase customer satisfaction.

The City of Mount Vernon has somewhat lagged behind in the field of technology and it's time that we make the important and necessary investments to better serve the citizens of Mount Vernon."
