Mount Vernon Schools Host Curriculum Nights For Parents

From Mount Vernon City School District: The Mount Vernon City School District will host “Bridges to Success: Welcome Back Curriculum Night” on Sept. 26 and 27. Parents are invited to come learn how to successfully navigate their child through their curriculum.

There will be two nights, based on the child’s grade level:

• Pre-K to Grade 5 – Tuesday, Sept. 26, 5-7:30 p.m.

• Grade 6 to 12 – Wednesday, Sept. 27, 5-7:30 p.m.

Mount Vernon High School

Parents will become familiar with the New York State elementary, middle and high school curriculum requirements, meet district instructional leaders and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Pre-K to Grade 5 parents will learn about what their children will learn and how they will learn it. Additionally, parents can attend separate workshops and will have the opportunity to obtain a library card from the Mount Vernon Public Library.

Grade 6 to 12 parents will also gain an understanding of graduation requirements, the district’s course catalog, Regents exams and how to prepare for post-secondary success. There will be workshops at this session as well.

“Curriculum Night is really the opportunity in the district’s way to open up its doors so parents are truly part of the process of educating and supporting their child at home,” said Claytisha Walden, associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction. “Parents will have the opportunity to meet school and district leaders and ask important questions to gain a better understanding of what their children are learning in school during the day so they are equipped with strategies to actively support them at home.
