The MTA Welcomes Mayor Thomas & 12 STEAM Academy Students
Mayor Thomas and 12 STEAM Academy Students visits the 14th Avenue Bridge that's being reconstructed by the Metro North Railroad
On Wednesday, May 8th, 2019, Mayor Richard Thomas and 12 students from The Mount Vernon STEAM Academy were invited by Mark Mannix, Senior Director of Corporate & Public Affairs of the Metro North Railroad to be onsite of the 14th Avenue Bridge Project.
The STEAM Academy students got to witness first hand;
- Job Site Safety Measures
- Material & Labor Logistics
- Construction Planning & Scheduling
- Structural Engineering Principles
- Budgeting & Bidding
- Time & Resource Management
During a Q&A, students had the opportunity to ask great and insightful questions about engineering and construction. The engineers on site provided detailed answers that directly applied to the real-life application of the students’ classroom work.
