New Mount Vernon Elects New School Board President

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — Mount Vernon resident Lesly Zamor has been elected President of the Mount Vernon Board of Education. He replaces former president Adriane G. Saunders, who will now serve as Vice President of the Board.

“My broad knowledge of the complex issues that face this great city and school district will provide a useful perspective as president of the school board,” Zamor said in the district's announcement. “I’m a visionary who has a track record of bringing people together to get things done. I am very hands on. I understand what it takes to move a large organization such as the schools, and so I take this appointment very seriously. The revitalization of the school district will re-ignite the city of Mt. Vernon, marking a re-birth of ‘the shiny city on the hill.’"

Zamor was elected to the school board in 2015.

“Along with the help of my fellow trustees, a remarkable superintendent and his steadfast cabinet, I plan to be a champion of this new direction for our schools," he said. "Every family should know, that this time around, we mean business. To borrow a phrase from the U.S. Post Office, ‘neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night’ stays this board of trustees and its administration from realizing this big turnaround of our district!”

Zamor, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from New York University, has lived in Mount Vernon with his family for 12 years. In the community, Zamor also serves as a Mount Vernon Planning Board Commissioner and President of the Chester Hill Park Neighborhood Association.
