Op-Ed: Latimer On Passage Of Memorial Field Plan

Can a a symbol of what government failed to do become a sign of what governmental cooperation can accomplish?

From Westchester County Executive George Latimer

For far too long, Memorial Field in Mount Vernon was a symbol of what government failed to do. Now, I am proud to work with Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, Mount Vernon leadership, County Legislator Lyndon Williams and the entire Westchester County Board of Legislators to show the people of Mount Vernon – and Westchester County as a whole – what government can achieve. This is a promise I am keeping just like my promises to complete the Miller House and Sprain Ridge Pool.

It is tragic that this joyous milestone has occurred during a dark period in our County’s history. While we are all consumed with the COVID-19 pandemic, I hope the passage of the Memorial Field Plan will be a beacon of hope – a symbol of great things to come in this County. We will complete this field, we will put people to work in solid paying union construction jobs, we will put money into the economy and one day, hopefully soon, we will all enjoy this field again.
