Reading Celebrated On Dr. Seuss Day At Mount Vernon Leadership Academy
It was a "Wacky Wednesday" in the classroom — by Friday an elephant with a ruby-bedecked rajah enthroned on top made an untoppable tale.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — "The more that you read, the more things you will know," Dr. Seuss famously wrote. "The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
An entire city put that axiom to the test and the results were almost as adorable as they were inspiring.
Over 20 volunteers, including Mount Vernon police officers, administrators, board members and even retired principal Peter Ragaglia, read to students at the Mount Vernon Leadership Academy on Thursday, to recognize Dr. Seuss Day, a nationwide reading celebration.

"This initiative started many years ago from my mom who was a librarian here, with the goal of bringing literature to life," fourth grade teacher, Melissa Hogan said. "It’s important to bring community members into the classroom and allow students to see them in a different light."
Each volunteer chose a different Dr. Seuss book and visited classrooms ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade.
