Sawzall, Blades And Catalytic Converters Found In Stolen Car: WCPD

Shortly before 5 a.m., the Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a stolen Jetta from NJ was traveling through Mount Vernon.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A stolen car recovered in Mount Vernon held a few clues to the recent epidemic of catalytic convertor thefts, according to Westchester County police.

The Westchester County Police Department's Patrol Services Division says that they recovered a stolen vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning and then found stolen catalytic converters in the trunk.

Shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, the Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a stolen 2022 Volkswagen Jetta from New Jersey was traveling on MacQuesten Parkway in Mount Vernon. Officer Totaro located the vehicle on Mount Vernon Avenue and followed it while waiting for backup.

Lieutenant Ess and Officer Hickey responded and the three patrol units boxed the stolen car in on Bronx River Road in Yonkers.

The Jetta had been stolen a few days ago in Manhattan and is owned by a Jersey City resident.

Israel Pieter, 25, and Adan Belliard, 30, both of Manhattan, were booked on two felony charges each of criminal possession of stolen property 4th and 5th degrees.

The county's General Investigations Unit detectives are working to find out where the catalytic converters were stolen. They have already shared information about the two suspects and the vehicle they were using with the law enforcement community in the area, according to police.
