Sentence In Saw Mill Parkway Hit-and-Run

YONKERS, NY — A Yonkers man will serve six months in the Westchester County jail for the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old Zachary Dunn in 2016.
Junior Silverio-Ventura, 21, was sentenced to serve six months in County jail (starting Monday) and five years probation. He pleaded guilty March 26 to a charge of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a class E felony, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced.
Silverio-Ventura was 19 at the time of the accident. He was driving on the Saw Mill River Parkway near the McLean Avenue exit in Yonkers in the early morning hours of Labor Day Sept. 5, 2016, when his car crashed into the rear end of Dunn’s disabled vehicle. Dunn and a passenger were in the car. Dunn, a Yonkers resident, was critically injured and died later. His passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Silverio-Ventura drove away. He was returning to Yonkers from a night out in Manhattan with a group of friends in three cars at the time of the accident. The Acura he was driving was unregistered.
Westchester County Police and Yonkers Police investigated the crash. Assistant District Attorney Brian Bendish prosecuted the case.
