Serial Mugger Sentenced
One of his victims was an 11-year-old, another was repeatedly punched in the face.
YONKERS, NY — A man who robbed three victims on the street, punching one of them hard enough to require hospitalization, is headed to state prison for up to 20 years. William Hines, 52, will serve 11.5 to 20.5 years in state prison, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced.
At 5:40 p.m. Jan. 6, 2019, in the area of Palisade Avenue and Walsh Road, Hines stole money from an 11-year-old boy.
At 12:30 a.m. Feb. 4 on Elm Street, Hines forcibly stole money from someone and repeatedly punched the victim in the face, which required hospitalization.

In the third crime, just eight days later, he forcibly stole money from a victim on Ashburton Avenue.
In December, Hines was found guilty following a jury trial before County Court Judge Anne Minihan.

Hines's sentence:
- Count 1: Robbery Second Degree: 7 years in state prison
- Count 2: Assault Second Degree: 5 Years in state prison
- Count 3: Grand Larceny Fourth Degree: 2-4 years in state prison
- Count 4: CPSP Fifth Degree: 1 year in WC jail
- Count 5: Robbery Third Degree: 2.5 to 5 years in state prison
His sentences on counts 1, 2 and 4 will run concurrently, consecutive to counts 3 and 5.
Assistant District Attorney John Astarita of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
