State Police Investigating Fatal Hit And Run On I-87 In Yonkers
Police are asking for the public's help finding a black Honda Pilot with a broken windshield believed to have been involved in the crash.

YONKERS, NY — A motorcyclist has died following a hit and run crash on I-87 in Yonkers.
State Police responded to a serious crash at 8:20 p.m. on Monday on I-87 southbound, near mile marker 2.2 in Yonkers.
Investigators said Michael P. Pereira from the Bronx was riding a 2018 Honda motorcycle in the center lane behind another vehicle, described as a black SUV. The SUV slowed down for an unknown reason and the motorcycle changed to the right lane and at that same time, the SUV also changed lanes to the right lane and slowed abruptly in order to take the Exit 4 off-ramp. The 30-year-old motorcyclist was not able to avoid a collision and hit the back of the SUV.

The driver of the SUV continued on to the exit for Midland Avenue, leaving the scene of the crash, investigators said.
Pereira was ejected from the motorcycle. He was treated at New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Based on eyewitness accounts and using a Westchester County Police Department license plate reader camera, a photograph of the vehicle believed to have been involved in the fatal crash was captured. Police are asking for the public's help locating a black Honda Pilot between a 2009-2015 model. The SUV has extensive damage to the back end and a broken rear windshield, according to New York State Police.
The crash remains under investigation.
