There are many more important things to consider when examining the effectiveness of a school and the education it provides your children than the quality of the cafeteria and food being prepared for your children.

But, the little things can definitely contribute to how happy your child is at school, and Niche.com has ranked tens of thousands of public high school cafeterias in the United States to determine which ones are the best.

They also did a statewide ranking. Nationally, New York had one public high school to crack the top 100 list.

Drumroll please, the top 5 public high school cafeterias in the United States are: William T. McFatter Technical Center in Florida, Itineris Early College High School in Utah, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Massachusetts, Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Illinois, and High Tech High School in New Jersey.

New York schools that cracked the top 100 in the state were John Jay High School in Lewisboro at No. 2 in the state (and No. 69 nationally), Horace Greeley High School in New Castle at No. 6, Byram Hills High School in North Castle at No. 11, Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook at No. 13, Tappan Zee High School in Orangeburg at No. 27, White Plains Senior High School at No. 30, Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose at No. 31, Dobbs Ferry High School at No. 33, Sleepy Hollow High School at No. 37, Rye Neck Senior High School in Mamaroneck and Rye at No. 46, North Salem Middle/High School at No. 53, Lakeland High School in Lake Mohegan at No. 54, Haldane High School in Cold Spring at No. 74, Fox Lane High School in Bedford at No. 79 and Red Hook Senior High School at No. 97.

One reviewer for William T. McFatter Technical Center wrote, “Food was extravagant at McFatter Technical Center. Everyday students from the culinary department made specials such as salmon w/ wild rice and vegetables or chicken breast w/ quinoa and vegetables et cetera. There was also a place called ‘La Piazza’ which offered a variety of foods such as pizzas, yogurts, drinks, soups, sandwiches, desserts, chips, muffins, cakes and everything was made fresh daily. Another food option was ‘burger house’ where burgers and fries were offered.”

For New York, here are the top 100 public high school cafeterias in the state, which is based on parent and student surveys and the total expenditure per student, according to Niche.com. (Click on each hyperlink to read more about each school.)

If your high school isn’t on the list, don’t despair, just go here and type in the name of your public high school into the box at the top that says “see how your school ranks.”
