Victim Recovering After Holiday Weekend Gun Violence In Mount Vernon

"We are tired of it," the mayor said of the violent over Labor Day weekend that kept police busy. "Don't bring drama to your own home."

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Mount Vernon man remains in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center after being shot in the early morning hours on Sunday, police said.

Shortly before 1:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, Mount Vernon police were called to Monroe Street on a report of shots fired. Officers discovered that a man, later identified as 21-year-old Khristian Williams, was suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the left upper arm. Williams was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. He was listed in stable condition at last report and is expected to make a full recovery.

While re-canvassing the area of the shooting for additional evidence, in daylight hours, detectives recovered a firearm. A connection to the weapon found and the shooting has not yet been confirmed.

"We are tired of it," the mayor said in a 4-minute speech posted to Facebook. "We're not just going after the gun manufacturers but we're going after the people who are doing gun crimes in our community."
