Black & Gold Club Updates Nanuet Press Box (VIDEO)

The next step is the interior and the sign. They're looking for volunteers for labor and donated materials like sheetrock. Contact NanuetBlackandGoldClub@gmail.com if you can help out

As the Nanuet Athletic department lays down fresh paint lines on its baseball fields, just a few feet away, Rob Young is overseeing the new paint job on the Nanuet Schools' press box.

It's black with a wide horizonal stripe of gold and the roof matches in gold as well. Young is a Nanuet resident, with kids in the district and is the owner of a Nanuet business, Priceless Painting and Power Washing

Young stepped up and volunteered to do the painting of the press box when the Black & Gold Club reached out to the community for help.

“A couple of years ago, the Nanuet Alumni Association was generous enough to construct a new press box for the Nanuet High School … located at the Jerry Leo Memorial Field. The press box was built by all Nanuet Alumni and they did an amazing job. The only thing missing was our school colors,” said Camille O'Connor, of the Black & Gold Club. “The Nanuet Black & Gold Club decided it was time to paint it Black & Gold. Rob Young of Priceless Painting has been generous enough to donate labor & materials to help achieve this. He has kids in the Athletic Program at Nanuet and is excited to contribute to the Nanuet Knight school spirit.”

A few months ago, the Nanuet School Board granted the Black & Gold Club permission to give the press box a makeover, both the exterior and interior. The club was founded in 1965. Similar to a booster club, it was organized by a group of interested parents and citizens of Nanuet with the express intent of rendering a substantial contribution to the school, the student athletes and the community, according to its website.

"It took about eight working days," said Young, who, along with one of his workers, did the finishing touches on Wednesday morning. "Camille O'Connor picked the colors adn donated the paint."

“Some students were involved in ideas for where to use the colors,” said O’Connor.

Young added that one of the challenges was picking the gold since there are several shades. They were thinking about using the metallic gold shade on the scoreboard and helmets, but because of the price and the fact that a local pain store was donating it, they went with another shade.

“We also had to think of how it would stand up in the sun. We ended up using this shade and it was the better choice I think,” said Young. “The wind made it a little difficult, but we should complete it today (Wednesday) by lunchtime.”

The next step the Black & Gold Club is looking at is installing a new sign on the press box.

“(This) will christen it once again as the Jerry Leo Memorial Field (since) the old sign was never put back up,” said O’Connor. “Along with the Alumni Association, (we want to) make the look complete by hanging the sign denoting it once again as ‘The Jerry Leo Memorial Field - Home of the Nanuet Golden Knights.’”

The unfinished interior will also be completed with a facelift.

“We are also going to be renovating the inside in the next couple months. I just secured a contractor who is a Nanuet Alum who has volunteered to take on the project,” said O’Connor.

She added that the finished interior will help the press box “be used more efficiently as a concession stand as well as for announcing the games. We will need volunteers for labor and donated materials like sheetrock.”
