“We are thrilled to receive this grant from Meals on Wheels America,” said Don Hammond, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland. “The funds will be used to support the agency’s Homebound Meal Delivery program which helps alleviate senior hunger and isolation in our community,” added Hammond.

Throughout the month of March, the agency recruited 25 local legislators, administrators and celebrities to serve as community champions by either delivering meals to the homebound, preparing meals in the commissary or serving meals at one of our five senior centers in the County. In addition the agency held nutrition workshops at its senior centers, held a March for Meals Ladles of Love Free Soup Day on March 18th at the Lakeview Village Senior Housing complex, and participated in and promoted March for Meals at the 53rd Annual Pearl River St. Patrick’s Day Parade and at the Rockland County Youth Fest & Government Day, both held in March. Our five senior centers also participated by collaborating with
Keep Rockland Beautiful (KRB) and ARC of Rockland. Seniors and ARC participants painted five community trash receptacles with the March for Meals logo as part of KRB’s Artful Receptacle Project. Through all of this event participation and community partnership, Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is very pleased to announce that we welcomed 24 new volunteers to the agency.
