St. Anthony School Students Give Back

Students at Saint Anthony School, Nanuet, are helping Rockland's homebound residents prepare for winter with donation of "Blizzard Boxes"

While there is no sign of snow in our forecast, students at St. Anthony School, in Nanuet, have been busy assembling “Blizzard Boxes” for the homebound of Rockland County. For over 35 years, the school has filled a Meals on Wheels van with decorated shoe boxes packed with assorted non-perishable items in the event Rockland County’s frail and elderly cannot get food due to harsh weather conditions.

“This is a program St. Anthony School has been supporting for many years,” says Sr. Patricia Howell, Principal. “We know the elderly appreciate getting the food, but more importantly, the thought and care that goes into the boxes. Many of the boxes are decorated so beautifully and contain cards and notes from students in every grade,” she added. In fact, each year the school receives a handful of thank you notes from those individuals who received one of St. Anthony’s Blizzard Boxes.

With enthusiasm and pride, St. Anthony’s 8th grade class carefully loaded more than 160 boxes into the Meals on Wheels van, which will be used to help deliver over 3,000 Blizzard Boxes throughout Rockland between October and February.
