Massive Bronx Fire Leaves 7 Hurt, FDNY Says

More than 100 firefighters battled a blaze in the cockloft of 1464 Watson Ave. for more than an hour Friday morning, FDNY said.

BRONX, NEW YORK — Seven people were injured Friday morning when a fire broke out in the cockloft of a Bronx apartment building.

Firefighters were called to 1464 Watson Ave. just after 6 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

By 7:15 a.m., the blaze had turned into a four-alarm fire and 168 firefighters were still trying to put it out. Video from the scene shows heavy smoke rising from the top floor of the three-story apartment building.

The fire was put under control by about 8:10 a.m.

The seven people hurt included four firefighters and two civilians, all with non-life-threatening injuries, and one civilian who had serious injuries, FDNY said.
