NY Child Murder Case Reopens As Podcast Debuts (patch.com) — New Yorkers are getting a closer look at a notorious Putnam County child murder case as a new season of the Bone Valley podcast debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival. Reporter Paul Solotaroff details how a newly formed task force has reopened parts of the case, revisiting old leads as a convicted predator nears release and investigators seek help from his team’s extensive wrongful-conviction reporting.

2. 3 NY Restaurants, Chefs Named 2026 James Beard Winners (patch.com) — Food lovers in New York City have plenty to celebrate after three local restaurants and chefs took home top honors at the 2026 James Beard Awards, including Lei in Chinatown and Meju in Long Island City. The New York-based foundation also spotlighted Ridgewood chef Yara Herrera among its national TasteTwenty, while dozens of city spots from Tribeca to the East Village earned recognition as semifinalists.

3. NYC Cash Flow Fears Loom Even As Nonprofits Secure Payments (patch.com) — New York City nonprofits will receive billions in scheduled July 1 payments after Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration backed off a plan to delay funding, easing fears for groups serving vulnerable New Yorkers. City Council leaders, including Speaker Julie Menin, still plan an oversight hearing into the city’s cash flow problems, as officials warn of structural budget imbalances that could affect New York’s finances going forward.

4. Brooklyn landlords hid rent-stabilized units from tenants, NY attorney general says (gothamist.com) — New York City renters should know the state attorney general has sued two Brooklyn landlords, alleging they hid rent-stabilized status and overcharged tenants in Crown Heights and Ocean Hill buildings. The suits seek to restore rent stabilization, refund overpayments with interest, and impose penalties under a new program enforcing “de facto” rent stabilization across the city.
