The New Album from Drag Icon Pandora Boxx is Packed with Delicious Musical Treats

Pandora Boxx, the beloved drag artist who has captured the hearts of fans since her iconic run on RuPaul's Drag Race, is back with her brand-new album BOXX. Described as her most personal and introspective work to date, BOXX is filled with catchy, fun, and quirky dance tracks that also tell deeply emotional stories. Known for her humor and wit, Pandora has taken a slightly different approach with this album, which features hit singles like "Dance" and "Hey."
Unlike her previous releases, which often leaned into raunchy humor, BOXX is completely PG. Pandora herself wrote all the tracks, and she admits to having a soft spot for each one. The album is a reflection of her journey, showcasing not only her musical talents but also her growth as an artist and person.
A Nostalgic Tribute to the Past
The album's first single, "Dance," is a special anthem for Pandora, as it’s a tribute to her younger self. The song paints a picture of the little boy who was bullied at school, only to find solace by locking himself in his room, blasting Madonna CDs, and dancing his troubles away. "Dance" encourages listeners to let go of what others think and embrace the freedom of self-expression, an essential theme for Pandora, who has often used her platform to promote self-acceptance and individuality. “Dance is a song for everyone,” Boxx explains. “It encourages people not to pay any mind to what others think and to dance like no one is watching.”

Another standout track, "Stars," takes inspiration from Pandora's childhood dreams of space exploration, paying homage to Star Trek and the idea of reaching for the stars. For fans of her comedic and pop culture-influenced work, this song is a fun nod to the sci-fi world that Pandora has long admired.
On the other hand, the rock-influenced "Pill" delves into more serious themes, depicting real-life struggles that Pandora has faced as an adult. This song’s raw, emotional vibe contrasts with the lighter tone of the other tracks, adding depth to the album.

Saying Goodbye to an Iconic Role
One track that holds a special place in Pandora's heart is "Raspberries," an ode to the legendary Broadway actress Carol Channing. Pandora famously impersonated Channing on RuPaul's Drag Race, and the track serves as a heartfelt farewell to that character. With BOXX, Pandora is saying goodbye to one of her most iconic impersonations, allowing her to explore new creative directions.
Pandora also uses BOXX as a platform for activism. Her track "Gay" directly responds to Governor Ron DeSantis' controversial "Don't Say Gay" legislation. The song is an empowering anthem for the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating queer identity in the face of discrimination.
A Club Banger with "Hey"
While BOXX explores Pandora’s personal struggles and triumphs, it doesn’t shy away from fun. "Hey," the album’s latest single, is a high-energy club track designed to get people moving. With its infectious beat and vibrant energy, "Hey" is poised to become a favorite on dance floors this season. Its bold, attention-grabbing sound makes it a standout hit, showcasing Pandora’s ability to craft irresistible dance music.
Riding the Wave to Drag Stardom
Pandora Boxx, born Michael R. Steck in Jamestown, NY, has always been an artist at heart. She recalls her childhood as a mix of creativity and challenge, growing up with a loving mother but a more complicated relationship with her father. Pandora’s artistic journey began early. At the age of five, she won a greeting card contest with a design that was later sold in stores—a sign that creativity was in her future.
As a fifth grader, Pandora wrote and performed a play called The Trouble with Christmas, further proving her knack for storytelling. This flair for creation eventually led Pandora to RuPaul's Drag Race, where she competed in season two, earning the title of Miss Congeniality. Pandora returned to compete in Drag Race All Stars and became a fan-favorite for her comedic performances and vibrant personality.
Pandora admits that much has changed since she first appeared on Drag Race in 2010. “I think some people may realize after listening to BOXX that I am much more than the Pandora that they’ve seen on television,” she says. “Back then, I didn’t talk about my relationship because he didn’t sign up for all that. We’ve been together for almost 19 years and he’s always been there for me. Ian is my rock.”
With BOXX, Pandora also reflects on her personal journey of healing and growth. Therapy and self-reflection have opened her mind to creating even more authentic and meaningful art. “I think healing yourself can make your mind more open to create better artistry. This album has been a journey, and I’m excited for people to listen to it.”

A Tribute to Outsiders Everywhere
Produced primarily by Brandon James Gwinn, BOXX showcases a mix of Pandora’s playful humor and heartfelt introspection. Electropoint produced two tracks on the album, including the high-energy single "Hey." Pandora is grateful to the team of collaborators who helped bring BOXX to life, and she dedicates the album to anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t belong.
“For all those weirdos like me, who buck the norm and are true to themselves,” Pandora says. BOXX is more than just an album; it’s a tribute to individuality, creativity, and the power of self-expression.
Available now on all streaming platforms, BOXX is a must-listen for fans of dance music and anyone looking for a little inspiration to embrace their true selves.
