Donald Trump Picks Jets Owner Woody Johnson For Ambassador To U.K.

Woody Johnson, the billionaire owner of the New York Jets, also served as vice-chair on the Trump Victory Committee

NEW YORK, NY — Woody Johnson, the billionaire owner of the New York Jets, is Donald Trump's pick to be the next ambassador to the United Kingdom, according to multiple reports. Johnson has been a longtime fundraiser for the Republican party and served as a vice-chair of the Trump Victory Committee during this year's election.

Lets hope Johnson has a better grasp on international relations than he does football.

Trump announced plans to tap Johnson for the ambassadorship Thursday during a luncheon in Washington D.C., Reuters reported. While speaking at the luncheon Trump referred to Johnson as an "ambassador," and said that he's "going to St. James," according to the report.

Ambassadors serve "at the pleasure of the President," meaning Donald Trump has the power to replace any sitting ambassadors appointed and confirmed during previous administrations. Johnson will face a confirmation process in the Senate before reporting to the Court of St. James in the United Kingdom.

Johnson got involved in the 2016 election early, serving as finance chairman for the doomed Jeb Bush campaign. Bush, an early frontrunner for the Republican nomination, was defeated by Trump but had no problem raising — or spending — money with Johnson helming his finances. Bush raised more than $118 through the Right to Rise Super PAC alone, which had only $2.5 million by the time he dropped out in February, according to a Time report.

Much like Jeb Bush's performance in the Republican primary — the New York Jets finished the 2016 NFL season with a horrid 5-11 record after winning 10 games in the season prior.
