Frenzy 2018 Sauvignon Blanc is Oyster Frenzy Grand Champion
The wine from New Zealand is declared winner prior to the 16th annual Grand Central Oyster Frenzy
With more than a touch of crisp irony, “Frenzy” 2018 (Sauvignon Blanc) from New Zealand has been declared the “Grand Champion” wine to be served at the 16th Annual Grand Central Oyster Frenzy this Saturday, September 29, at the historic Oyster Bar & Restaurant in New York City. In a blind taste-test, not even knowing that “Frenzy” 2018 was in the competition, a blue-ribbon panel of experts painstakingly chose the winner. The panel included: Michael Riedel, New York Post theatre critic/WOR Radio host; Marian Betancourt, food writer and author of Heroes of New York Harbor; Emilio Bagnali, wine authority, Gruppo I Vinai; Michael Miehle, noted restaurateur and wine connoisseur; and Joseph Porcelli, prominent restaurant attorney and wine aficionado.
Here are the ranked winners selected by the judges from 30 wines in the competition, which will also be served at the Frenzy: 1st Place East Coast: Galerie (Sauvignon Blanc) 2017 – California; 2nd Place East Coast: Paco & Lola 2017 –Spain; 1st Place West Coast: Figini (Gavi) 2017 Italy; 2nd Place West Coast: Zanchi Amelia Bianco Pizzale 2016 (Trebbiano) – Tuscany, Italy.
