New York Giants Legend Eli Manning Set To Announce Retirement

NEW YORK, NY — Eli Manning is retiring from the NFL after 16 seasons and two Super Bowl victories with the New York Giants.

Manning will announce the news in a press conference on Friday, according to the Giants.

Manning, 39, who would have been a free agent in March, hangs up his cleats with almost every passing record in Giants team history. He lost his starting position to rookie Daniel Jones this past season.

Manning returned for two more games in the 2019-20 season after Jones picked up an injury late in the year, giving him a chance to finish his career as a starter in the NFL at 117-117.

"For 16 seasons, Eli Manning defined what it is to be a New York Giant both on and off the field," John Mara, the Giants' president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "Eli is our only two-time Super Bowl MVP and one of the very best players in our franchise's history. He represented our franchise as a consummate professional with dignity and accountability. It meant something to Eli to be the Giants quarterback. We are beyond grateful for his contributions to our organization and look forward to celebrating his induction into the Giants Ring of Honor in the near future."

The quarterback was named to four Pro Bowls during his 16 seasons and ranks in the top 10 in NFL history in both passing touchdowns (366) and passing yards (57,023).

"It was an honor and privilege to coach Eli, and to go through the wonderful and magnificent moments that he and his teammates provided for all of us in the world championship '07-'08 and '11-'12 seasons," former Giants coach Tom Coughlin said in a statement released on the New York Giants official website.

Manning's two Super Bowl victories over the New England Patriots during the 2007 and 2011 seasons are the most memorable moments of his long career. He earned Super Bowl MVP honors in both games.
