NEW YORK CITY — A 1-month-old girl was mauled to death by a dog inside a New York City apartment as she slept next to her mother and stepfather, according to police and a report.

The incident happened on Tuesday inside a apartment at the Queensbridge Houses public housing complex in Queens around 6:40 a.m., police said.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the German Shepherd-pit bull mix gnawing on the infant's face. The dog allegedly bit off a ”substantial portion” of the baby's face, according to a New York Post report.
