National Burger Month: Find The Best Patties In NYC

Celebrate National Burger Month by trying the city's best offerings.

NEW YORK, NY — There are few finer places than New York City to celebrate National Burger Month – a recent survey found the five boroughs have 14 of the best 101 burgers in the nation.

As the annual event is marked through May, The Daily Meal's "The 101 Best Burgers in America" list took a bite of patties across the U.S.

It found the West Village's The Spotted Pig served up best in the city, coming in at number three in the nation. The best burger overall, however, was awarded to Au Cheval in Chicago.

The best way to celebrate burger month is to chow down on as many of the meaty creations as possible.

73. Bowery Meat Company (9 E First St)

Celebrity chef Josh Capon knows hamburgers better than most. Capon has won best burger awards in New York City and Miami, and he's done it again with his product at Bowery Meat Company. The East Village, dinner only spot makes some of the best burgers around.

50. The Corner Bistro (331 W Fourth St)

The Greenwich Village staple cooks its American cheese-draped burgers under a broiler before serving them on sesame buns. It's more of a dive bar than a traditional restaurant, but it undoubtedly makes one of the best burgers in NYC.

42. Brindle Room (277 E 10th St)

The East Village restaurant only uses dry-aged meat for it burgers, and with added caramelized onions and whatever cheese you like, the hamburger experience at the Brindle Room is truly unique. It also comes in at only $17, one of the least expensive burgers on the list.

26. B&B Winepub (25 W Houston St)

Capon's second appearance on the list is with his trendy Soho spot. B&B Winepub has won the coveted Burger Bash award five times in the past six years, cementing a level of dominance in the burger game.

24. 4 Charles Prime Rib (3004, 4 Charles St)

It's no easy feat getting a table at 4 Charles Prime Rib but, if you're able to, make sure you order the cheeseburger. A white bun holds together two four-ounce prime beef patties, topped with cheese of your liking, pickles, onions, mayo and dijon sauce.

22. Keens Steakhouse (72 W 36th Street)

The legendary Keens Steakhouse has been open since 1885 and has a "Pipe Club" with former members such as Teddy Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Albert Einstein and J.P. Morgan. Outside of its deep NYC history, it also serves some of the best burgers in the country. The patty is made up of the restaurant's dry aged steak and it's recommended you don't add any toppings besides a little red onion.

19. The NoMad Bar (10 W 28th St)

Possibly the most upscale burger on the list, Daniel Humm's restaurant is located within the famed NoMad Hotel. The dry aged Cheddar burger topped with bone marrow and suet, dressed with red onion and pickles, is the eatery's top choice.

18. P.J Clarke's (914 Third Avenue)

Today lots of restaurants boast a Cadillac burger, but according to legend P.J & Clarke's was the first institution to serve it after the name was bestowed on the burger by none other than Nat "King" Cole himself. The famed lower Manhattan joint has been pumping out quality food for over 100 years and it consistently finds itself on the best burger lists.

14. Peter Luger (178 Broadway, Brooklyn)

The Michelin-starred restaurant represents the only location in Brooklyn on the DailyMeal's best burger list, but it undoubtedly deserves a spot. Open since 1887, the location is best known for its award winning steaks, but the joint also makes incredible burgers. Just make sure to get there before 3:45 p.m., when they stop serving the beef patties.

11. The Little Owl (90 Bedford St)

With only 28 seats, and four at the bar, The Little Owl dining room doesn't look nearly as imposing as many of the other name's on the list. However Chef Joey Campanaro is a virtuoso when it comes to the art of the hamburger. Named the world's best hamburger by The Guardian, the thick patty of ground brisket and short rib comes seasoned with curry powder.

10. J.G Melon (89 Macdougal St)

The J.G. Melon burger is as classic as you get. The ground beef burger is a secret recipe creation, but it undoubtedly remains one of the tastiest meals in the country.

9. db Bistro Moderne (55 W 44th St)

The db Bistro Moderne consistently finds its name on collections of top American eateries. The Times Square location is headed by the French chef Daniel Boulud. In his burger, Boulud was able to tie together both American and French cooking traditions and produce one of the best burgers in the country.

5. Minetta Tavern (113 Macdougal St)

There may be no more renowned burger on the list than that of the Black Label Burger served at Minetta Tavern on Macdougal St in Manhattan. The restaurant was awarded three stars by The New York Times and the hamburgers are equally incredible.

3. The Spotted Pig (314 W 11th St)

The top burger spot in New York City and the third overall location on the list is none other than The Spotted Pig. The gastropub is at the forefront of the hamburger movement in America and the shoestring fries that get served alongside it are almost as tasty.
