NY1 Reporters Reach Settlement In Age Discrimination Suit: Report

The five female reporters accused the local news network of age and gender discrimination in the lawsuit.

NEW YORK, NY — Five female reporters who sued NY1 over age and gender discrimination have reached a settlement with the news station, according to reports.

Roma Torre, Kristen Shaughnessy, Jeanine Ramirez, Vivian Lee and Amanda Farinacci accused the media company of pushing them aside in favor of younger talent, including male anchors like Pat Kiernan, according to the suit and the New York Post.

The confidential settlement includes the women leaving their jobs, according to the Post.

“After engaging in a lengthy dialogue with NY1, we believe it is in everyone’s interest — ours, NY1’s and our viewers — that this litigation be resolved and we have mutually agreed to part ways,” the plaintiffs said in a statement released by their lawyers David Gottlieb and Douglas Wigdor. “We want to thank everyone who has supported us through these times — please know that the support from each and every person has made a real difference.”

The women, who range in age from 40 to 61, alleged that since Charter Communications took over NY1 in 2016, their airtime was cut and they lost anchoring opportunities despite collectively working at the 24-hour cable network for more than a century.
