Cops counted 244 shooting incidents during July compared to 88 at the same point last year, according to newly-released crime statistics.

NEW YORK CITY — The rat-a-tat of gunfire formed the soundtrack of a particularly bloody July in New York City, new crime statistics show.
Shooting incidents jumped 177 percent that month from last year's July, according to NYPD data released Monday. Murders also climbed 59 percent, police said.
The numbers confirm what has been a growing concern for police and city officials this summer — violence is on the rise.

"It's a perfect storm," he said. "We have people without jobs, without school, without anything, massive pent up frustrations."
