NYC Weather Forecast: Fog Blankets Area As Storms Threaten

Get ready for some possible weekend thunderstorms.

NEW YORK, NY — A foggy morning and two days of possible thunderstorms will kick off the first weekend in June in New York City, the latest National Weather Service forecast says.

Dense fog blanketed the metropolitan area Friday morning, limiting visibility to a quarter mile or less at times, according to the weather service. The city is under a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m.

Thunderstorms could strike the city Friday and Saturday, accompanying a chance of showers that will linger from Friday morning through Saturday night, the forecast shows.

The best chance of hearing thunderclaps will come from 2 to 11 p.m. Friday, according to the weather service. More fog is expected to roll in Friday night, the forecast shows.

Cloudy skies and high temperatures near 78 degrees are expected Friday and Saturday before sunshine returns Sunday, accompanied by a cooler high near 71, the forecast says.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Areas of dense fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Areas of fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday
A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and noon, then showers likely after noon. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 78. North wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night
A 40 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. East wind around 8 mph.

Sunday
Partly sunny, with a high near 71. East wind 11 to 14 mph.

A 30 percent chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53.

Monday
A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61.

A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53.
