NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For April 22-23

NEW YORK, NY — New Yorkers were treated to a near-complete meltdown of the subway system during the Friday morning commute when a power outage at the Seventh Avenue-53rd Street station triggered a domino effect of delays, stalled trains and service changes.

If the Friday morning disaster is any indication of this weekend's subway service — brace yourselves. Getting around by public transportation will be tough this weekend, as 13 subway lines will undergo planned service changes.

Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, April 21, through early Monday morning, April 24 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service." 1 train:

• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 1 trains are suspended in both directions between 14 St and South Ferry. Take 2/3 or R trains and free shuttle buses. Shuttle buses run between Chambers St and South Ferry.

2 train:

• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2 trains run local in both directions between Chambers St and 34 St-Penn Station.

3 train:

• At all times until further notice, 3 trains skip Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St in both directions. Use free shuttle buses instead.
  • For Service to/from Sutter Av-Rutland Rd, free shuttle buses operate between the Sutter Av-Rutland Rd station and the Crown Hts-Utica Av station at all times.
  • For Service to/from Junius St, free shuttle buses operate between the Junius St station and the Rockaway Av station at all times.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 3 service operates to/from New Lots Av all weekend, replacing the 4 in Brooklyn.
• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 3 trains run local in both directions between Chambers St and 34 St-Penn Station.

4 train:

• At all times until Spring 2017, 4 trains skip Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St in both directions. Use free shuttle buses instead.
  • For Service to/from Sutter Av-Rutland Rd, free shuttle buses operate between the Sutter Av-Rutland Rd station and the Crown Hts-Utica Av station at all times.
  • For Service to/from Junius St, free shuttle buses operate between the Junius St station and the Rockaway Av station at all times.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 4 trains are suspended in both directions between New Lots Av/Crown Hts-Utica Av and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. Take the 2/3/D/J/N/Q or R instead. For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take the D/N/Q or R. For service to/from Wall St and Bowling Green, use the R (N overnight) at the nearby Rector St or Whitehall St stations. For service to/from Fulton St, use the 2/3 or J. For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av, take the 2 or 3 instead. For service between Franklin Av and New Lots Av, take the 3 instead, running all weekend in Brooklyn.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 4 trains run local in both directions between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

5 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, free shuttle buses operate all weekend between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, stopping at Baychester Av, Gun Hill Rd, Pelham Pkwy, and Morris Park. Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at E 180 St.
• From 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 5 service is suspended in both directions. Take 2/4 trains and/or free shuttle buses. Free shuttle buses run between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St stopping at Baychester Av, Gun Hill Rd, Pelham Pkwy, and Morris Park.
• From 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 5 trains are suspended in both directions between Bowling Green and Grand Central-42 St. Take 4/6 or R trains instead.

A train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, A trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 23, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, April 23 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, downtown A trains run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle.

C train:

• From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, C trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.
• From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, downtown C trains run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle.

E train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, E trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between 21 St-Queensbridge and W 4 St-Wash Sq. Free shuttle buses run between Court Sq-23 St and 21 St-Queensbridge, stopping at Queens Plaza.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 7:00 a.m. Sunday, April 23, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, April 23 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound E trains run express from Roosevelt Av to 71 Av.

F train:

• At all times until early 2017 Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F trains skip Avenue I, Bay Pkwy, Avenue N, Avenue P, Avenue U, and Avenue X. To these stations, take the Coney Island-bound F to Kings Hwy or Neptune Av and transfer to a Jamaica-bound F. From these stations, take a Jamaica-bound F to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-bound F.

J train:

• At all times until Summer 2017, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 121 St.
  • For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
  • For service from this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from L service at nearby 111 St.
  • Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound J trains skip 121 St between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Take a Q56 bus or the Z train instead.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, Manhattan-bound J trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St.

M train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 7 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, April 10, M service is suspended in both directions between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. M service operates between Essex St and Myrtle Av, and is rerouted via the J to/from Broadway Junction. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service making all line station stops between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. Transfer between shuttle buses and J/M trains at Myrtle Av. For direct service to/from Manhattan, use the L via transfer at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, April 21 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, Manhattan-bound M trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St.

N train:

• At all times until Spring 2017, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd bound N trains skip 86 St, Avenue U, Kings Hwy, 20 Av, 18 Av, New Utrecht Av, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy. N trains will stop at Bay Pkwy and 8 Av.
  • To 86 St, Avenue U, and Kings Hwy, take the Astoria-bound N to Bay Pkwy and transfer to a Coney Island-bound N.
  • To 20 Av, 18 Av, New Utrecht Av, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy, take the Astoria-bound N to 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-bound N.
  • From these stations, take a Coney Island-bound N to Bay Pkwy or Stillwell Av and transfer to an Astoria-bound N.
  • For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D Transfer to an Astoria-bound N train at 36 St.
• At all times until Fall 2017 N trains skip 53 St in both directions. Take the B37 or B63 to the nearby 45 St or 59 St stations for N/R service. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day).

R train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 R trains skip 53 St in both directions. Take the B37 or B63 to the nearby 45 St or 59 St stations for N/R service. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• From 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, R service operates to/from the 179 St F station.
