📰 News we're reading

• Off-Duty NYPD Officer Stabbed During NYC Attempted Robbery (patch.com) — New Yorkers are learning more about an off-duty NYPD detective who was stabbed multiple times during an attempted robbery in the Bronx on Friday afternoon near Rochambeau Avenue. The detective, taken to Jacobi Hospital, is in stable condition, while Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed hopes for a full recovery and confidence that police will track down the still-unidentified suspects.

• Park West Gallery Opens New SoHo Space with Peter Max Retrospective and Picasso Exhibition - Park West Gallery10/10/26 through 10/11/26 (cityguideny.com) — A new Park West Gallery space in SoHo is opening with a free Peter Max retrospective and a special Picasso print exhibition at 468 West Broadway in New York. Grand opening events run October 10–11 with artist talks and Q&As, and afterward the gallery will keep daily hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's a no-cost way to see major modern art close to home.

• Court broadly interprets the Ending Forced Arbitration Act (blogspot.com) — A new Second Circuit ruling says that when the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act applies, it can keep an entire case, not just the harassment claims, out of arbitration. For New York City workers and employers, that means lawsuits involving city and state human-rights claims may increasingly play out in open court instead of behind closed doors.
