Popular Snack Recall Hits Stores Across NYC

NEW YORK, NY— A nationwide recall of certain potato chips is impacting products sold throughout New York City, federal officials and the manufacturer announced.

Utz Quality Foods is recalling select Zapp’s and Dirty brand chips due to a potential Salmonella risk tied to a seasoning ingredient sourced from a third-party supplier. Although the ingredient tested negative before production, the company initiated the recall as a precaution.

No illnesses have been reported.

Salmonella infections can be severe, especially for children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically include fever, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain.

The recalled chips were distributed widely and may have been sold at grocery stores and convenience retailers across NYC, including:

• Key Food
• Gristedes
• Whole Foods Market
• Trader Joe's
• 7-Eleven
• CVS

Impacted products include multiple Zapp’s flavors such as Bayou Blackened Ranch, Salt and Vinegar and Big Cheezy, along with Dirty brand Salt and Vinegar, Maui Onion and Sour Cream and Onion chips.

Consumers should not consume the affected products and should dispose of them. Utz is offering refunds through its customer service line.

The recall is being carried out with oversight from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
