The Yankee faithful always turn out for October baseball in the Bronx, so snagging playoff tickets from the official team website may prove difficult. Resellers and brokers will likely be flooding sites like Stubhub and Seatgeek with tickets.
If all else fails, you can always try buying a ticket from a scalper in front of the stadium before the game. But watch out, scammers will likely be out in full force for the playoffs.
Getting to Yankee Stadium and parking:
The easiest way that New Yorkers can get to Yankee Stadium is by taking the subway. The 4/B/D trains all run directly to the stadium.
If you opt to drive to the stadium both traffic and parking will be a hassle. Drivers should take the Major Deegan Expressway (Interstate 87) to the stadium. If you're heading north on I-87 take exit 3 for the stadium and if you're heading south take exit 6.
The Yankees contract their parking through a company called Quik Park, which operates the lots near the stadium. All rates are set by company, and prepaid individual-game parking must be purchased from Quik Park, according to the Yankees' website.
How to watch the game on television (or listen in on the radio):
Tuesday night's game will be exclusively broadcast on ESPN. If your cable package includes ESPN, you can livestream it on WatchESPN or the ESPN app. If you don't get ESPN with your tv package you can listen to the game on the radio at WFAN 660/101.9 FM.
The game starts at 8 p.m.
The matchup:
At the beginning of this year's MLB season most experts wouldn't have predicted a Yankees-Twins matchup in the Wild Card. The Twins were coming off a dreadful 59-103 2016 season and the Yankees were seen as an up-and-coming team not quite ready to contend for the playoffs.
But experts are often wrong.
Tuesday night's game features a matchup between an established veteran pitcher and an emerging young ace. The Twins' Ervin Santana, 34, will face off against the Yankees' 23-year-old stud Luis Severino. Santana is having a nice year (16-8 with a 3.28 ERA) but Severino has emerged as one of the league's most dominant starters. Severino has a record of 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA and 230 strikeouts.
The Yankees have historically had their way with the Twins in the postseason, winning nine straight games against the American League Central team.
