All-Star Invitational Tournament for ARC of Rockland Reschedules Games

Rockland County athletes participate in the 2011 All-Star Invitational Tournament, rainout pushes Monday's games to Tuesday.

Despite Monday's rainout, this year’s 2011 All-Star Invitational Tournament is sure to be a home run. Like the New City Little League tournaments before it, proceeds will benefit ARC of Rockland.

ARC of Rockland was founded with the intention of “creating a lifetime of abilities for people with disabilities.” Their programs cater to men and women of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The money raised will go to these programs.

All tournament games are played at Zukor Park. Monday's games were postponed and will be played Tuesday.

The tournament started on July 21 and runs through July 28. It includes 10 teams from District 18. These are the New City Little League, West Nyack Little League, Nanuet Little League, Haverstraw Little League, South Orangetown Little League, Stony Point Little League, Ramapo Little League, Congers Little League, Suffern Little League, and Nyack/Valley Cottage Little League.

The teams have been separated into three pools - A, B, and C. The champion of each pool and the wildcard will move on to the semifinals. All games will take place at Zukor Park's fields one and two.

The semifinals and finals will be rescheduled also. The long-anticipated finals will be followed by the awards ceremony.

Last year, Suffern was the tournament champion. Our own New City team was defeated after a competitive game against Haverstraw in the semifinals. Which team will dominate this year? Come watch the talented athletes of our county compete for the title.
