NJ Man Busted, Drove Hit-And-Run Truck That Killed Man on NY Thruway
A damaged Kenworth in a Mahwah rest stop led investigators to the man now accused of hitting a pedestrian early Sunday.
A damaged Kenworth led investigators to a Vineland, NJ truck driver eight hours after he allegedly hit a man walking on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County. On Sunday the New York State Police arrested Scott Spooner, 59, for leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.
Spooner was operating a 2009 Kenworth Tractor Trailer southbound on the NY State Thruway that investigators allege struck Paul Peacock of New York, NY near the Ramapo Rest Area at around 4 a.m.
While checking the area truck stops, investigators located Spooner and his vehicle at 12:15 PM. The damaged Kenworth was found in the Pilot Travel Center on State Route 17 in Mahwah, NJ.

NYSP were assisted by the Mahwah Police Department. Spooner was arraigned in the Village of Sloatsburg Court and remanded to Rockland County Jail on $25,000 bail.
It was unclear why Peacock, a New York City resident, was walking on the Thruway at the time of the collision, state police said Sunday.
