Blevins Complete Game Not enough As Boulders Fall To Quebec

Capitales stop Boulders, 5-2.

QUEBEC, Canada – Bobby Blevins went the full eight innings Saturday evening, but the Boulders failed to give him enough run support, as they fell to the Quebec Capitales, 5-2, in Can-Am League action.

Blevins threw eight innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits while striking out six.  Quebec starter John Mariotti went 7 2/3 innings and gave up just two runs.  Anthony Sullivan earned his third save for Quebec, tossing a clean ninth inning.

Quebec (5-1, 40-12) got on the board quickly Saturday evening.  A three-run home run in the bottom of the first by Sebastian Boucher gave Quebec an early 3-0 lead over Rockland.

The Capitales added another run in the second.  After a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt, Goefrey Tomlinson singled in Patrick D’Aoust for the fourth Quebec run.  The threat continued with runners on the corners for Quebec with one out, but Blevins escaped, getting Josh Colafemina to ground into a double play to end the inning.

In the home half of the fourth, D’Aoust scored for the second time on a single by Jeff Helps, which increased Quebec’s lead to five runs.

After Ryde Rodriguez walked to lead off the top of the sixth, Chase Weems recorded his first extra-base hit of the season, a double that scored Rodriguez for Rockland’s first run of the night.  Two straight ground outs followed to bring Weems home and make the score 5-2, which is how it would stay.

The Boulders (1-5, 20-32) will play the final game of their series with the Capitales this afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

Rockland newcomer Ryan Knippschild (0-1) will make his first Boulder start in Quebec Sunday afternoon.  He will take on Quebec’s Bryan Rembisz (5-1).
