Clarkstown Again On Money's 'Best Places to Live' List

NEW CITY, NY — A Hudson Valley community is among the best of the best when it comes to places to live in the United States.

Money Magazine compiled its annual top 50 Best Places to Live in America list that features towns that have what every homeowner wants: great schools, top hospitals and jobs aplenty.

Clarkstown is in rarefied company — only two communities in New York State got ranked — and the folks at Money don't even care that it's not a city!

"If great schools, parks and easy access to the Big Apple are high on your priority list, then check out Clarkstown, a sprawling town nestled right along the Hudson River," says the town's profile on the list.

Money Magazine created the list by analyzing various data to weigh a town's desirability as a place to live. The list was restricted to cities and towns that have populations between 25,000 to 500,000 and were ranked based on statistics related to economic opportunity, cost of living, housing affordability, school quality, income, arts and leisure options, safety, health care, and diversity.

The magazine cited four stats for each place, listing Clarkstown with about 86,000 residents, median income of $126,089; median home price of $450,663. and unemployment rate of 4.8 percent.

The town has made the list several times in the past decade. This year, Clarkstown squeaked in at No. 49. Clarkstown was ranked No. 7 in 2015 and 2016; No. 35 in 2012; and 41 in 2010.

“I am so proud of this wonderful honor for our Town,” said Supervisor George Hoehmann. “Clarkstown is an amazing place to raise a family and also to settle down in retirement; we have so much to offer all ages from our excellent school system, to parks, senior centers, recreation programs, businesses, shopping, entertainment and more.”
