Clarkstown Cops Warn Of Toxic Algae

It's hard to tell toxic from non-harmful algal blooms. it's best to avoid swimming or boating where you see a bloom.

NEW CITY, NY — Clarkstown police warn residents of harmful algae blooms in bodies of water throughout the town. HABs are toxic, for humans and for animals.

Because it is hard to tell a HAB from non-harmful algal blooms, it is best to avoid swimming, boating, otherwise recreating in, or drinking water with a bloom in it, say officials from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Stop using water and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, skin, eye or throat irritation, allergic reactions or breathing difficulties occur after drinking or having contact with blooms or untreated surface water, the DEC says.
