When addressing his fellow graduates, Steven Tenzer, valedictorian of the Clarkstown North Class of 2013, he said, "It's scary to think that we've graduated Clarkstown North, otherwise known as the best high school in New City." Tenzer is off to Harvard in the fall and is in a class of 369 seniors.
The seniors graduated this evening at 6 o'clock in the Field House at Rockland Community College. While the room was hot, the students remained excited and content throughout the ceremony.
Also giving a speech was Joan Lee, class salutatorian and future Princeton student.
"Remember that our lives are still works in progress," said Lee. "In ten years I hope I remember not fearing to make a commitment when there was a risk of failure."
The ceremony also included a beautiful performance of "Time to Say Goodbye," that was both sung by a chorus and signed by a group of students.
In his closing remarks, Tenzer let his peers know that high school is not the end, it is only the beginning.
"You have 726 days to create a name for yourself in high school," said Tenzer, "You have your entire life to create a legacy."
