Daily Sports Digest: 9-10 Softball All-Stars Win Section Tournament Opener

The New City Little League 9-10 softball all-stars won its first game of the Section 4 tournament on Sunday.

The team remained unbeaten in all-star play with a 15-0 victory against Cortlandt at Heroes Field in Lake Nanuet on Sunday. Kaitlyn Fudge and Samantha Kanar combined to pitch a no-hitter for New City, while Kristen Tarantino and Julianna Diaz led the offense with two hits and two RBIs each.

New City will advance to play Tuesday at 8 p.m., but doesn’t know its opponent as of Monday morning.

  • Both New City Little League 9-10 all-star teams will look to stay alive in the District 18 tournament tonight. American lost to Congers on Saturday in its first game and tonight faces South Orangetown at 8 p.m. National lost 12-0 to West Nyack on Saturday and tonight looks to stay in the tournament against Ramapo at 6 p.m.
  • The New City American Majors Division all-star team was eliminated from the District 18 tournament Friday night with a 6-0 loss to Haverstraw.
  • The Junior all-star team stayed alive on Sunday with a 10-5 win against Nyack-Valley Cottage. New City advances to the next round, where it will play Wednesday against an opponent yet to be determined.
