Don't Miss: New City Home's North Pole Airport Light Display

The family that creates this stunning light-and-sound display collects donations for two charities. Here are details and show times.

NEW CITY, NY — Whatever you do this holiday season, do not miss the house decorated as the North Pole Airport. This is only the Cirlin family's second year putting on a big automated light and sound display outside their home — and this year there are more than 9,000 bulbs and so many things to notice that you may have to see it more than once.

Like the plane, with Santa and elves. Like the runway. Or maybe the windows blinking on and off to music.

Make sure you bring something to give. At the display, the Cirlin family is collecting new hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and other winter weather accessories for families in need. Items will be donated directly to People to People Inc of Rockland. The donation bin is outside on the display by the snowman.

All monetary donations collected onsite or online are being donated to Angel Flight North East, a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c) charitable organization. Angel Flight provides free air transportation in private aircraft by volunteer pilots so that children and adults may access life saving medical care.

Gary and Christine Cirlin and their two children started small, just a regular house with a normal outdoor display, Gary Cirlin said. "But then we thought 'let's go for it!'" he said.

And, get this, they moved this summer.

So the hand-built structures, the lights, custom wing harnesses, the rigging, the inflatables — all got moved into his parents' basement in New City, he said. "This was the number one item we moved ourselves, it was so much it probably would have doubled the moving company's price!"

He began working on it in October, right after they got the keys to the new house. They haven't unpacked the dining room yet.

"And here's a fun fact: The best part of this is I'm Jewish, my wife's a Catholic," Cirlin said. "I probably have the largest menorah in New City."

Cirlin says people have been generous so far this year. On Monday, he opened the donation box and found someone had left two new child winter jackets for People to People to distribute.

People have even tried to give money to his daughter when she's in her reflective yellow safety vest handing out candy canes to the visitors, he said. "Dad, we're like Santa, she told me, we're giving people smiles."

Show times are 6-10 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 6-9 p.m. Sundays, 12 Oriole Road, New City.
