DWI for Wrong-way Thruway Driver

Headed north past Sloatsburg in the southbound lanes of I-87

State Police got a report at 2:30 a.m. Dec. 9 of a Honda Accord traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-87 between Exits 15A (Sloatsburg) and 17 (Newburgh).

Troopers found the wrong way vehicle and quickly pulled it over before any incidents. They concluded the driver of the vehicle, Gina S. Alegria, 28, of New York, NY, was intoxicated.

Alegria was transported and processed at Newburgh, where her blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.17 percent. She was charged with:

  • Driving While Intoxicated, Unclassified Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving, Unclassified Misdemeanor

Alegria was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Woodbury Court on Dec. 16.
