Amnon's Journey: A Documentary by Jean Marie Hosatte and Sylvie Sanabria

This film is being shown as a part of JCC of Rockland's Cultural Arts Festival.

Amnon's Journey is an inspiring documentary about master violin maker Amnon Weinstein and his mission to recover violins played by Jews in the ghettos, camps and forests during the Holocaust. The film documents Weinstein's dedicated restoration of what remains of a thriving Jewish culture that was all but destroyed.

"Each instrument tells a unique story and in Amnon's skilled hands new life is breathed into each, bringing forth the voices of a lost generation."

The documentary features touching musical performances by international virtuosos Maestro Shlomo Mintz, Yair Dalal and Cihat Askin. The culminating performance of the film is a gala concert in Jerusalem's Old City on Israel's 60th anniversary. The "Violins of Hope" concert featured the Philharmonic Orchestra of Istanbul, Turkey and the Symphonette Orchestra of Ra'anana, Israel playing sixteen of Amnon's restored violins.

A live musical performance will follow the screening.

French, Hebrew & English with English subtitles.
