French Artist Philippe Vasseur Debuts Latest Works At Axelle Fine Arts Galerie

On Thursday, June 3, 2010, Axelle Fine Arts Galerie will showcase the newest oil paintings by French artist, Philippe Vasseur. The artist explores time and the great condition of human existence, leaving the viewer enthralled in the beauty of what is both ambiguous and specific.  Vasseur's buildings and landscapes, which depict scenes from Paris, Deauville and Morocco, obey rules and real perspective; yet at the same time defy nature in its boldness

Vasseur was born in Lisieux, France in November 1954. The son of a woodworker, his father's artistry served as his earliest inspiration.  At the age 18, Vasseur left Lisieux to enroll in the London Academy of Drawing.  A year later he was admitted to the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts where he continued studying drawing and art history.  While in school, he exhibited his work at Parisian galleries and was placed on the map when Gallimard Publishing Group, a publisher of literary classics, used the artist's work on its book jacket covers, which exposed him to millions of readers.  In the following years, Vasseur began to focus on painting and moved to Normandy in 1983 where he studied traditional landscapes and frequented museums to observe Impressionism. With his classical training serving as a framework, today Vasseur opens a world of possibilities in each of his canvases.

The exhibit (with paintings ranging from 11" x 16" to 61" x 72") will be on display from June 3 through July 3, 2010 at Axelle Fine Arts Galerie, 535 West 25th Street, NY, NY.  The opening reception is from 6pm to 9pm and is by RSVP only. Reservations can be made by emailing newyork@axelle.com or by calling (212) 226.2262.  For more information on Axelle Fine Arts Gallerie and Philippe Vasseur, visit www.axelle.com.
