GAUGUIN: MAKER OF MYTHS

More than one hundred mysterious, exotic, mythical, paintings by 19th century artist PAUL GAUGUIN are currently assembled in a rare exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.  These major works cover GAUGUIN's entire career with representations of his imaginary and real experiences in Europe and Polynesia.  His unique primitive subjects, color and perspective influenced early 20th century artists, in particular Picasso and Matisse.  This slide-lecture, presented by art historian Irene Wisoff, reviews GAUGUIN's life, art and ear Irene Wisoff.  1:00pm
